Government Policy and the Evolution of Japan's Photovoltaic Industry, 1961-2014
Abstract
Interest in renewables is growing in France, Japan and many other countries, due to growing environmental concerns of fossil fuels and the safety concerns of using nuclear energy. This paper examines the evolution of Japan’s photovoltaic industry. Over the decades, Japanese government policies on renewables have focussed on photovoltaics, which convert solar rays into electricity. This paper identifies several policy regimes over the history of the Japanese photovoltaics industry.
