This article focuses on the temporality of written verbal production, which it sees through bringing together linguistics and cognitive psychology points of view. Its purpose is to describes the roles played, during a text's creation, by the part of the text already written, analyzing both the writer's activity and the text's progression. The first part establishes the epistemological framework of the article, exploring divergences and convergences between textual analysis approaches from linguistics and from cognitive psychology. The second part develops the temporal levels that are called on in the process of producing a text: from the linguistic perspective, the point is to describe the temporality of the graphic act of writing, to see how the referential content of the text constructs a temporality and to explore the temporal limits of the activity of production; from the cognitive psychology perspective, the point is to see what temporal constraints weigh on the writer. A discussion about the methods of analysis is then proposed, as a way of introducing the last section. This section is devoted to a particular phenomenon that allows us to see the complexity of the temporality of writing: the influence of the text already written on the genesis of the text to come. The article finishes with a presentation of the experimental "eye and pen" tool that allows observation of the ocular-graphomotor movements of writers, and thus to analyze the temporality of the activity of writing.
