Paradoxes of sovereignty

Résumé

Growing ecological interdependencies, the emergence of global public assets, and the appearance of citizen groups claiming to be "free from sovereignty" have drastically altered the traditional meaning of national sovereignty. Although these trends are redefining the nature of sovereignty and states, these entities remain the central actors in collective international action since they are responsible for enforcing norms.
