A discovery of sentence patterns and phonemic symbolism in GU Cheng's Poems
顧城詩的語法形式和音位符號系統之探勘
Résumé
The present work explores GU Cheng’s sentence patterns and phonemic symbolism relying on Principal Components Analysis (PCA) for 1. sentence lengths, 2. sinograms, 3. syllables, 4. consonants, 5. vowels, and 6. tones. Based on colocation frequency, we extract underlying rhythmic and musical patterns from all lines. This allows us to categorize the musicality and the rhythmic feeling in reading GU Cheng’s poems in order to characterize his poetic syntax and to propose a methodical approach for interpreting his poems on a deeper level.
