Résumé
This article focuses on the contexts that highlight the presence of stereotypical and “racializing” content in the sports press. Analyzing the media coverage of the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona (2010) by the newspaper L’Équipe, we study the mechanisms of production of racial typifications from a structuralist point of view; decoding the functioning of the sports and media fields can enable us to study the social, economic, and historical logics that lead to the production of stereotypical and “racializing” statements by journalists, columnists, coaches, and athletes themselves.
