The Beja Language Today in Sudan: The State of the Art in Linguistics

Abstract

This article gives an overview of the main literature available on the Beja language (Cushitic branch of Afro-Asiatic) in different linguistic domains: grammatical descriptions, lexicology, dialectology, sociolinguistics, phonetics, grammaticalization, discourse organization and prosody, including recent results of the author's research.
Cet article présente une synthèse des connaissances sur la langue bedja (branche couchitique du phylum afroasiatique) dans différents domaines linguistiques: descriptions grammaticales, lexicologie, dialectologie, sociolinguistique, phonétique, grammaticalisation, organisation discursive et prosodie, incluant les recherches récentes de l'auteure.
