Reflexives and middle in some Polynesian and New Caledonian Languages
Résumé
Most of New Caledonian and Polynesian languages do not mark reflexivity with markers identical to the reciprocal/middle markers. They use different kinds of intensifiers, of different origins (adverbs, emphatic, restrictive or deictic particles) . In the first part of this article, I also examine how middle values are expressed in these languages, either by the genetically related reciprocal/middle marker or by reduplication or anti-causative constructions.
