Labor Market Networks and Outcomes

Résumé

This paper considers the role of labor market networks for labor market outcomes. It identifies two theoretical approaches (offer arrival rates and offer distributions), examines their implications in a simple job search model and tests these alternatives using data on young people from France. We find cleaner implications for the offer distribution theory, although our empirical results suggest that the role of better quality networks in France is to increase the arrival rate of job offers.
