Later Han Taoist movements and their sources
Résumé
This paper deals with popular or mass religious phenomena, as opposed to the religion of the elite, and with the formation of alternative knowledge in the face of a strengthening body of canonical learning. Topics under discussion include the chronology of the two major movements of the late Han era, theology and supreme deities, beliefs and practices in context, the sources of early Taoist movements, and "Taoist" identity.
