Conclusions from a prospective analysis of the franco-valdo-genevan metropolitan project
Résumé
The communication will address the contradictions emerging from a prospective analysis led with regional stakeholders in the cross-border franco-valdo-genevan metropolitan area. We will first come back on the history of prospective efforts led in the area, evidencing long-term trends regarding local preoccupations and representations. Building on the oppositions and connections expressed during recent workshops by the stakeholders, on the future relations of their local spaces and the multiscalar integration processes (Alpine metropolitan project and UE politics), we will explain the 4 scenarios of the possible evolutions of this border region. This material provides for a good illustration of regional imaginaries of the links between border and European issues. A culture of "territorial project" on the French side opposes a vision of "functional metropolitan documents" on the Swiss side. Transportation here appears as common point and as a provisional basis for future dialogue.
