Treatment of War in German illustrated children's books in pre-war time (1910-1914)
Résumé
In this presentation we will seek to analyse the patriotic and military trends of German illustrated children's literature and its functions in the pre-war time between 1910 and 1914. Since 1910 military and patriotic topics have increased in some publishing houses. It will be focussed on the readership from 3 to 13 years. Do these topics reflect the social importance and prestigiousness of military sphere in the German society whose unification has been realised "by iron and blood" or rather do they reveal intentions of adults to "prepare" German children to a potential future war?
