<p>"Translate One Another" : the Logic, Politics and Anthropology of Translation in the Ignorant Schoolmaster by Jacques Rancière. Abstract : The question of translation is at the heart of the "universal teaching" or "panecastics" of Joseph Jacotot (1770-1840) as exposed by Jacques Rancière in the Ignorant Schoolmaster - Five Lessons in Intellectual Emancipation. The article presents the work and shows what links emancipation to translation theory. Equally, it shows that not only is the "pan-translatability" defended by Jacotot and Rancière a political response to the question of emancipation (or the salvation of the ignorant : the ignorant will only be saved by the ignorant themselves), not only is it the messianic vision of a humanity equal in the universal and mutual practice of translation and counter-translation, but that it is also a proposed solution to several theoretical paradoxes in translation theory, notably that of the exceptionality of the acquisition of the mother tongue.</p>
