              <p>[Single Man. Civilizations in the plural. There he was not an unbearable paradox? The unity of the human race should it not mean that humanity and therefore all men are recognized in a single civilization? As the first show, the answer to that question is, for the past, quite understandable, because of the history and geography that have not allowed the extension of a single civilization. But today, the strong geographical constraints of yesterday are largely overcome by new technologies. Also the idea of a single dominant civilization does this more than ever as a possibility in a global world. Consequently, the "clash of civilizations", that is to say, the will of one of them to impose on others by violent means, could appear more possible than ever given the global technical which features contemporary man. Nevertheless, such a shock is not the primary determinant of conflict, especially a double plurality of civilizations remains a reality of humanity.]</p>
            </abstract>
            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
              <p>Homme au singulier. Civilisations au pluriel. N’y a-t-il pas là un paradoxe insupportable ? L’unité du genre humain ne devrait-elle pas signifier que l’humanité, et donc l’ensemble des hommes, se reconnaisse dans une civilisation unique ? Comme nous le montrerons d’abord, la réponse négative à cette question est, pour le passé, assez compréhensible, en raison de l’histoire et de la géographie qui n’ont pas permis l’extension d’une civilisation unique. Mais aujourd’hui, les fortes contraintes géographiques d’hier sont largement surmontées par des nouvelles technologies. Aussi l’idée d’une civilisation unique dominatrice se présente-t-elle plus que jamais comme une possibilité dans un monde global. En conséquence, le « choc des civilisations », c’est-à-dire la volonté de l’une d’entre elles de s’imposer aux autres par des moyens violents, pourrait apparaître plus que jamais possible compte tenu des techniques planétaires dont dispose l’homme contemporain. Néanmoins, un tel choc n’est pas le déterminant premier des conflits, d’autant qu’une double pluralité des civilisations demeure une réalité incontournable de l’humanité.</p>
