Usman Dan Fodio founded the Empire of Sokoto at the beginning of the 19th century. He was a scholar, a reformer and a commander. The French National Library owns a manuscript, entitled Qadh al-zinâd fî amri hadha-l-gihâd, which recalls the stages of his struggle and explains its causes and justifications. This manuscript is attributed to his son Muhammad Bello. It is here edited and translated, with an introduction and comments.
Usman Dan Fodio a fondé l'empire de Sokoto au début du 19e siècle. Il était un lettré, un réformateur et un chef militaire. La Bibliothèque Nationale détient un manuscrit, sous le titre Qadh al-zinâd fî amri hadha-l-gihâd, qui rapporte les étapes de son combat et en donne les causes et les justifications. Ce manuscrit, attribué à son fils Muhammad Bello, fait l'objet ici d'une édition critique et d'une traduction, accompagné d'une introduction et d'un commentaire.
