2003: A Turning Point in the Formation in the Syrian Youth
Résumé
The American invasion of Iraq has shaken neighbourhoods societies : it was one of the main factors which sparked a new political generation. Tackling Syrian issues provides insights to understand social and political changes which underpinned the ongoing mobilizations. The present chapter states that the Syrian generation who was borned between 1977 to 1992, awaked as a social group while consequences of the Iraqi war meet other dynamics which undermined traditional social orders. Individualisation results from this meeting : new social sphere gave the opportunity for the "young" to experiment with the urban freedoms. All members of this generation were not impacted by an historical event contrary to their elders, previously to the Iraqi war. I shows how actors reframed their values and their vision of the world when the war impacted their daily life.
