Le patrimoine cinématographique africain en péril
Résumé
We attempt to depict the difficulties intrinsic to the preservation of Africa’s cinematographic patrimony. In fact, many African films, precious testimonies of their respective epochs, have suffered from fatal material degradation, and some have even vanished altogether. This is why measures have to be taken to organize and save the archives by combining efforts in research, restoration, cataloguing, as well as esteem and exchange. The preservation of African films constitutes a major endeavor for the whole continent, as access to its cinematographic heritage is at stake. Encouraging a consciousness of their culture and the history of the continent that is to be preserved for future generations has become a global project.
