Résumé

Nāsir-i Khusraw (d. between 465/1072 and 471/1078) was a Persian poet, an Ismā‘īlī philosopher and a Fatimid propagandist. His Dīwān and his “Book of travels” are considered as masterpieces of classical Persian literature. But even in his philosophical and dogmatic works, meant to circulate only in the inner circles of Ismā‘īlī initiates, he left the Fatimid habit of writing in Arabic in favour of his native language. He even avoided as most as possible technical terms borrowed from Arabic, replacing them with Persian neologisms. He quotes extensively from early Fatimid sources (al-Sijistānī, Ja‘far b. Manṣūr al-Yaman, Ikhwān al-Ṣafā’), translating them into Persian without mentioning the names of their authors. This “eclectic plagiarism” leads to contradictions in his philosophical thought, raising the question of his importance as a philosopher.
