Technology: A relevant methodology for characterizing cultures of Early Post-Glacial

Résumé

North European archaeological assemblages dated to Mesolithic time (X-VIII millenium BC) have mainly been define by typological approaches which brought several geographical distribution for a same culture, according to the types of tools which have been considered as relevant for representing a culture (Clark 1970 ; Childe 1931 ; Kozlowski 1973 and 2003). The technological study of ca. 4000 worked pieces in bone and antler, coming from settlements bog sites of north european plains (Preboreal and Boreal chronozones), has bring into light three exclusive technical traditions of manufacture of the bone and antler weapons, tools and pendants, which rediscuss the previous cultural definitions (David, 1999 and 2003). This methodological approach will be discribed as well as the value of the results. CLARK J. G. D.
