How to Bring a Portrait into Darkness – How to Bring Dirk Scholl of Delft under Light
Résumé
This paper presents a painting now lost, known from a photo kept in the Mirimonde documentation at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. It shows a musician in his home, near his pedal clavichord. Mirimonde thought it was the portrait of a Luthier in his workshop. We propose to identify here a portrait of the organist and carillonneur Dirk Scholl (1654-1730) who was active in Delft from 1675 to 1711.
