René Ouvrard et l'évolution de l'art musical
Résumé
In his extensive manuscript work La musique rétablie, Ouvrard (1624-94) proposes a picture of the history of music more complete than those of his predecessors, drawing not only on treatises but also on written music. This leads to a dichotomy between natural and artificial music that allows him to integrate his picture into a broader Neoplatonic framework.
