Students mobility, gender and polycentrism in Europe

Nadine Cattan

Résumé

This paper underline the need for a more critical approach to classic understanding of the European spatial integration that give to much importance to the concepts of hierarchy and areas of influence. The study shows that the the student mobility between the cities is polycentric and balanced i.e. that no city or pair of city dominates the network of exchanges. In a European context where 61% of migrating students are female, this work highlights moreover the fact that migratory behaviour of females go further to questioning the neo-classic models of spatial mobility than do those of male students.
