Noise, far from being a marginal and superfluous phenomenon in song, is of the same substance and even found within the vocal one. This aspect seems fundamental because it is embedded in the genre and inherent to its “vocality”. Song exploits noise in many different ways, timbre, breath, or impregnation of the specifics of the speaking voice... The impact of technology is decisive, supporting intrusion and bringing the best out of noisy, disturbing elements found in the voice. Lastly, noise plays an essential and paradoxical role pointing the way forward. It is at one and at the same time a means of identification in a group because it is culturally and socially discriminating as well as an element of differentiation and confirmation of the uncommon nature of a unique phenomenon.
