A Spatial Analysis of Neolithic Sites on East Taiwan and Related Issues

Résumé

By using the published archaeological data, this paper will discuss the distribution of sites and examine the spatial dispersal sequences of prehistoric population in East Taiwan. With the help of GIS geographic information system, we are able to observe and analyze the site distribution patterns. Then, we discuss the gap between the sites distribution and the existed cultural chronology. The results of our work confirm the possibility of ancient peoples in the east Taiwan immigration form other region, and we suggest that we should paid more attention on the cultural transmission of each stage, convergence and transformation of the Neolithic populations on east Taiwan. The discussion on the topics of Neolithic occupation、dispersals and movement out of east Taiwan should be based more on detailed archaeological chronology.
