History's Contributions to the Renewal in the Sociology of the State. Crossed Franco-American Perspectives
Résumé
In France as well as across the Atlantic, historians' interest in the State is relatively recent. In 1990, Rosanvallon was still deploring the state's status as a "historical non-object", whereas, three years earlier, for Leuchtenburg, then president of the Organization of American historians, the State remained a "new frontier" to be conquered for the discipline.
