Psychoanalysis and the Social Sciences

Abstract

The contribution of psychoanalysis to the social sciences is threefold. It has encouraged theemergence of interdisciplinary research with fields such as history and anthropology, introducednew theoretical issues (such as the question of subjectivity, sexuality and emotions) and contributedto the development of important social theories, such as structuralism, the Frankfurt School'scritical theory and postmodernism, which gives an important role to analyzing the symbolic.
