Investigation Under High Surveillance : a Corpus of Interactional Linguistics in Prison Environment
Enquête sous haute surveillance : un corpus de linguistique interactionnelle en environnement carcéral
Résumé
The investment of a new field, the academic distance learning in a maximum security prison in France, gave rise to an ethnographic research supported by audiovisual recordings. In the same time, they focus on teaching situations, on organizational meetings and interviews with studentinmates. These records involve the organization of a specific corpus. So, the search is confronted with the difficulties of the investigation in restrained environment, probably never explored in linguistics. Then, the expanding area of inquiry requires a adequacy of the methodology to this same field multidimensional and allows changes to certain objects of the discipline. Taking into account the problem of bias, potentially induced by the investigation, led to the examination of complex relationships. They are maintained by the safe and search observation devices. Moreover, the alternation between safe and educational fields gives rise to specific forms of participation. Interactants mobilize interactional and language resources to carry out their involvement in various activities. These direct observations have revealed the first aspects of the dynamics of interactionnal participation to educational activities in restrained environment.
