From the mid-sixties to the mid-eighties the field of generative grammar in France achieved impressive success which had repercussions on the development of generative grammar in other countries, particularly in Italy and Holland. Nevertheless, the development and influence of the field in France seems to have stagnated and even decreased during the last decade.
