Forces, formes, Einfühlung. L'esthétique de l'espace de Theodor Lipps
Résumé
The concept of Einfühlung in Lipps (which becomes central in Husserl's
discussion of Lippsian philosophy) has its source in the aesthetic theory developed
by Lipps from the years 1891-1897 in order to explain the optical illusions as well as
the perceptive and affective experience of simple spatial forms (like those used in architecture,
industrial design, and ornaments). The aim of the present article is to reconstruct
the main theses of this spatial aesthetics by showing its relation with the Lippsian
concept of psychology, the conscious and unconscious, perception, feeling (Gefühl), and
Einfühlung. I propose here that, in the aesthetic experience of spatial forms as conceived
by Lipps, not only the forms but also the human space itself – and at the same time the
spatializing I – is structured and experienced through dynamic orientations and affective
valences.
spatiales simples (architecture, design, ornementation).
affectives.
