Transnational Intellectual Debates
Abstract
Since the 1990s and the diffusion of the ideas of the Iranian reformists, the debates have intensified in Shiite clerical circles. After a review of the exchanges that took place in these circles, from the 1950s, particularly between Iran, Iraq and Lebanon, this chapter analyzes the different aspects of Iranian influence: the Revolution, first, but also, then, a modernist reformism (Soroush, Shabestari). It is transmitted and discussed through translations, journals and the circulation of clerics. "New theology" and philosophy arouse interest outside of Iran.
