Village archaeology in France. A twenty-five year retrospective

Résumé

For twenty five years the archaeological researches led within present villages in France. These researches carried out frequently in the preventive archaeological framework, rarely in the project framework. Since 2000, interest in village archaeology increased raising methodological problems. The various experiments throughout in France show not only the weakness of current system of French research but also the important results that complement the knowledge acquired over the past thirty years thank to studies on deserted settlements, often located in the periphery of current villages.
