Bâtons percés from the MAN collections: The contribution of 3D microscopy to the identification of significant use wear patterns

Résumé

The recent acquisition of a Hirox microscope at the Museum of National Archaeology in Saint-Germain-en-Laye made possible to revisit some of the most famous rough and/or engraved Bâtons percés of the French Paleolithic. Several series have been investigated and the results obtained from the examination by 3D optical imaging of perforation surfaces show divergences and convergences which will be presented and discussed.
