Η προϊστορική κατοίκηση της Ερέτριας και της Αμαρύνθου
l'occupation préhistorique d'Erétrie et Amarynthos
Résumé
This paper offers, for the first time, an examination of the parallel development of Eretria and Amarynthos (central Euboean, Greece) during the Final Neolithic and the Bronze Age. Although no clear evidence of occupation has been detected so far in Amarynthos, the settlement has been attested on the hill of Palaioekklisis from the EH I onwards, with no interruption until the end of the Bronze Age. On the contrary, the settlement in Eretria changed place several times from the top of the Kastelli hill (the later acropolis of the city-state) to the alluvial plain where the modern town of Eretria lies today. Gaps have also been evidenced during the MH II and the LH III A-B periods, mainly due to changing environmental conditions.
