L’Ausonio di Île-Barbe e la filologia umanistica su Ausonio prima della scoperta del Vossiano F111
Résumé
This is a reexamination of the stemmatic position of the lost manuscript α of Ausonius, which came from the abbey of Saint-Martin a l’Ile-Barbe near Lyon. It can be reconstructed from the copies of it made by Ja-copo Sannazaro, Girolamo Aleandro and Mariangelo Accursio. Detailed philological examination shows not only that it does not descend from V (Leiden, Bibliotheek der Rijksuniversiteit, Voss. Lat. F 111), a manu-script certainly produced in Lyon, but suggests that it goes back to an older manuscript (Ξ), above V in the stemma. By this means we recover a new witness from a much earlier stage of the tradition. In addition, an appendix throws light on the working methods of Sannazaro as a philologist and considers a question not previously posed: which printed edition was used by him as the basis for his collation?
