"Embodying « Greek music » in France: The Angélique Ionatos case"

Résumé

Angelique Ionatos, singer, guitar player and composer, offers a case study to discuss imaginary representation of hellenity and Greek music in France, where she has had a great success, and considered by her public as the emblematic figure of Greek music and poetry. Paradoxically she has been very little known in Greece, while she made a long career singing, in a very personal compositional and performance style, almost exclusively Greek poets.
