Résumé

This communication examines debates around copper mining and more general concerns around hardrock extractions in the context of climate change given the related concerns tied to air pollution and water stress issues. Overall this project examines the differing roles of media type for this particular case, and considers the interweaving of media universes with the political, industrial and social dimensions of this conflict, one that presents a series of tensions around environmental necessities and industrial production needs for consumers around the world. The corpus collected comes from a plurality of sources and medium (Website of newspaper, Twitter accounts, reports). Identifying topics and the search for stakeholders’ standpoints is based on the topic modeling approach and text mining analysis. Our study shows that two positions, pros and cons, are irreconcilable.
