Natakamani and Amanitore to the North: Evidence from Sai and its region

Résumé

Prominent figures of the Butana area, King Natakamani and the Queen Amanitore have left what is probably the largest series of representations and texts associated with a ruling family in the Meroitic kingdom. While most originate from the capital itself and its surrounding cities such as Wad Ben Naga, they can also be found in the more distant regions of Jebel Barkal and Kawa. However, further north, where there have always been fewer royal inscriptions, Natakamani and Amanitore are an exception, with their names appearing on the remains of two temples at Sai and Amara East, though little is known about their real influence in this region and around the border with Roman Egypt.
