Arku muzikál, Arpa no flauta, instrumentu muzikál tolu ne'ebé uza atu namora iha Ataúro

Dana Rappoport

Résumé

On the island of Atauro, mouth bows and tubular zithers are played by men, while Jew's harps and flutes are played by women. In the past, flirting between young people took place to music. Boys and girls (tato haklara, raklungu) would meet at the full moon to play together (tuir rod raklungu, “to follow each other”). The boys played the rama mouth bow while the girls played the aklamu Jew’s harp. Mutual attraction was experienced through music, through “the voices of the bow and the Jew’s harp” (rama hahan, aklamu hahan), two instruments that resonate according to the same acoustic technique. Sometimes girls could also play the flute kinur.
