Múzika husi siklu rituál husi bee midar iha Ataúru
Résumé
The music of the ritual cycle of fresh water in Atauro: On the island of Atauro, after several months of a long dry season, fresh water is in short supply. In several villages, a ritual was traditionally organized in order to obtain fresh water (ek, eg, er), the one coming from terrestrial sources (eg matan hresuk/ ekmatan raklungu) and the one coming from the sky (uran "rain"). This ritual, which lasted several weeks, took place between September and October, before the beginning of the rainy season. To propitiate the favor of the invisibles, songs, accompanied by drums, were performed successively in three places: at the village spring, at the family cemeteries and at the place of the couple of statues. Named nelu tolan, this important ritual event was the occasion to sing a long cycle of songs (souk sosé in Makili/sour sésé in Makadadé). This ritual has disappeared since 1973 from all parts of the island except Makili.
