Chanhu-daro, field-seasons 2015-2022. Contextual data and stratigraphy

Résumé

Since 2015, the French Archaeological Mission in the Indus Basin (MAFBI) in cooperation with the Directorate General of Antiquities and Archaeology, Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Department, Government of Sindh, has undertaken new excavations at Chanhu-daro, Benazirabad District, Sindh, with the aim of better documenting the architectural and craft developments during the first centuries of the Indus Civilization still little-known in the Lower Indus Valley. Between 2015 and 2022, the team led by Aurore Didier and David Sarmiento-Castillo excavated a total area of 6,500 m2 in Mound II and Mound III. This paper presents the objectives and progress of these large-scale excavations, the contextual data and the details of the stratigraphy of Trench 1 dug in Mound III and Excavations 2 and 3 in Mound II.
