The verb system of Lua (a ‘Bua’ language of Chad)
Résumé
Lua (also known as Niellim) is spoken in Chad by a few thousands of speakers established along the Chari River. The language belongs to the ‘Bua’ group, made of a dozen of geographically compact languages representing the easternmost extension of J.H. Greenberg’s Adamawa branch (1963). Neighbouring languages are Chadic or SBB, as well as Arabic.
The paper is devoted to a systematic presentation of the Lua verb system using original data and texts collected on the occasion of a fieldwork in Chad dating from the 70’s.
