Résumé

In the historiography of mathematics, proof and computation have regularly been perceived as opposed to each other in ways that have significantly obscured the discussion of the relationships between these two mathematical practices. This essay intends to draw on recent work in the history and the philosophy of mathematics to offer some reflections on these relationships.
