The Geographical Dimension of Inequalities in Access to Employment

Résumé

By analyzing the weight of geographic processes at work on inter-individual inequalities in access to employment in its various dimensions, this chapter identifies a multiplicity of socio-economic mechanisms supported by an impressive empirical literature in geography, economics and sociology. This literature questions and often refutes the relevance of the hypotheses and the predictions of the main theoretical formalizations.
