What is nowadays called "Spain", in a political sense, was progressively constructed by a concentration of social networks around the king's person from the XVth to the XVIIIth century. At the beginning of the XIXth, constant territorial losses first in Europe, then in America, had reduced the Monarchy to its Peninsular territories. This shrinking gave the remaining parts enough relational density to cause their melting in one political unit which, from then on, can really be considered as "Spain".
