Based on the "relaciones de meritos" of candidates to clerical benefits of the royal patronage in the first half of the XVIIIth century, this paper suggests that dominican convents, slightly ahead of the jesuit colleges, were then the most important educational network in Spain, as far as the number of students is concerned. It also analyses the content and form of the "relaciones" per se.
