Number from a syntactic perspective: why plural marking looks 'truer' in French than in Korean

Résumé

This paper presents a comparative description of plural marking in French and in Korean. We show that contrary to a common idea, plural marking is no more 'optional' in Korean than in French, and attempt to show precisely why the distribution of plural marking is different in the two languages.
