Ergativité nominale et actance verbale en basque
Résumé
Nominal ergativity and verbal valency in Basque
This study about the Basque language emphasizes the interactionist dimension of the act of speech: in the prototypical Basque utterance, initial case-inflected nominal constituents enable the addresser to have the addressee figure out the assignment of roles to participants, while the final verb incorporates by multiple agreement a complex subject profiled by the nominal analysis. This double procedure makes up the cognitive schemata following which the enunciative syntax steers the interpretive process.
