A constitution for Europe, Year one of the European republic.
The convention members have fulfilled their mission and the constitution has now been proposed. The members have succeeded in overcoming the difficulties and in inventing a method. This project is in keeping with the acquis initiated by the Founding Fathers, but also innovates by taking full account of the challenges of 21st century Europe. A reading of the draft reveals the gratitude that we owe the convention members. It now remains for the governments and peoples of Europe to adopt and even amend this constitution, to make it a fundemental democratic document.

Les conventionnels ont rempli leur mission. Une Constitution est proposée. Les conventionnels ont su surmonter les difficultés et inventer une méthode. Le projet s'inscrit dans la ligne de l'acquis initié par les Pères fondateurs, mais il innove aussi, prenant acte des défis de l'Europe du XXIe siècle. Une certaine reconnaissance envers les conventionnels naît de la lecture du projet. Il reste aux gouvernements et aux peuples à se l'approprier, voire l'amender et en faire un acte démocratique fondateur.
