Cultural diversity on a European cross-border scale: from local to global

Thomas Perrin

Résumé

This paper analyses how the cultural development paradigm can impact the cross-border cultural cooperation, in particular concerning the issues of cultural diversity. It is based on a comparative case study of different euroregions: Eurorégion Pyrénées-Méditerranée, Grande Région, Eurorégion Alpes-Méditerranée and other organisations. The main hypothesis is that euroregional policies, due to their original cross-border and transnational context, incite to review - and to renew - the thinking and the practices of cultural diversity. These policies also question the different dimensions of cultural diversity, from local to global. In this way, euroregional cultural policies can also contribute to European cultural construction, which is still to achieve.
