Seeing-is-believing Vision and the Powers of Verbal Framing in the Tudor Theatre
Résumé
This article shows that the universe of dramatic fiction tends to be perceived in conditions which one might call "given to be seen", themselves partly determined by the verbal environment of the play. In the Tudor theatre, that environment has its roots in cultural, circumstantial and popular references, as well as in other works and dramatic representations. The plays studied include Misogonus, Mucedorus and Shakespeare's The Tempest and The Comedy of Errors.
