Pragmatic Casablanca : From the Invention of a 20th Century Town to the Invention of a 21st Century Cultural Heritage

Known abroad mainly for its namesake and unmissable film (Curtiz, 1942), Casablanca is a largest Moroccan town with about five million inhabitants set on the Atlantic Ocean. During the 20th century, it had an explosive development that keep the town up to the first place in the ranking of Moroccan most rich, populous and active city; it raised up to became definitely one of the most important ports and metropolitan areas of the entire Africa.
Active and cosmopolitan city as a matter of fact, Casablanca is opening in recent years to its cultural heritage that is heavily linked to the colonial experience. This wide town is the object of a dynamic heritagisation process that is acting for several years but, in these last few ones it is having an essential transformation.
